
Clarke spent part of his childhood in Barberton and was educated in Pretoria and Johannesburg.

1981 Masters degree, University of Pretoria.
He lectured at the University of Pretoria and the University of South Africa and is currently working as a full-time artist.
Clarke has held numerous solo exhibitions in South Africa since 1975 including a retrospective exhibition at the Pretoria art Museum in 1992, entitled “The Stones Revisited”. He has participated in many group exhibitions of work by South African artists in Germany, Austria, France, Chile, the U.S.A. and is represented in major public collections in South Africa.
Clarke’s enduring interest has been in the landscape, supported by his strong interest in the history and prehistory of man in southern Africa. His extensive travels in this region, especially Botswana, Swaziland and Namibia are constant sources of inspiration.
